Consultation on the Waste Plan
The first consultation stage on the Waste Plan took place between 19th September and 31st October 2008 and this consultation is now closed. During that time, feedback was sought on a range of Issues and Options for dealing with this.
The next consultation stage on the draft Waste Plan will take place in the summer and autumn 2009. Public workshop dates and consultation materials will be advertised on this website nearer the time. The draft Waste Plan will contain the preferred sites for future waste management development across the four boroughs, plus draft policies for assessing future waste management applications. South London Waste Plan Supporting Documents
What is the South London Waste Plan?
- Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton are working together to meet the challenge to reduce landfill by developing the South London Waste Plan.
- The South London Waste Plan will form part of each borough’s strategic planning framework (the Local Development Framework).
- The Plan will identify land which is suitable for the development of potential waste management facilities within the four boroughs.
- It will also contain policies to support the sustainable management of all waste produced within the boroughs.
- The Waste Plan will not identify the waste technologies which are needed to deal with our waste. This will largely depend on the developers of waste management facilities. All applications for new waste management facilities will, of course, need to meet the policies within the Waste Plan and demonstrate that they are appropriate for the site.
- The treatment of waste collected and disposed of by the four councils is being decided through a separate procurement process. No decisions on this have yet been made.
- The Waste Plan will not affect your recycling and waste collections.
